Better World Shopper App Reviews

I used to carry around the paper version of this app. I am so glad that there is now a better way to have this information. I just wish we could get more info on the companies. The ratings are nice but dont tell the whole story.

I love their information but I wish it covered more companies.

The app hasnt been updated since its initial release in 2009. The information seems outdated; there are many company names that are absent. Additionally, there are few to no Canadian companies listed.

Simple, easy to use, clean looking app. Great concept. I have the book and recommend it and the website as well. If we support it Im sure they will add more companies. More companies...right ;)

The app is simple and easy to use however no explanation is given why a specific company is given a particular rating. There is only an overall explanation for all companies that 20 years of data have been reviewed but nothing per company. Nor is there any reference to what data and the date of the data which is being used by each company. Companies are able to change supplies and affiliations quickly to respond to issues. Dated reviews are required to understand if a company has been able to respond to a rating. Please could you provide more explanation per company as well as the date this review was done.

This is a great aap for knowing which industries are and are not worth supporting due to their products/services and also according to the kind of un-fair activities that take place within the industries background. However, an update for this aap is critically required along with some concentration on the Canadian market as well. Thank you.

The reviews seem to match with what I know about the companies. Id say this is an incredibly useful and convenient guide to have available in your pocket to help with purchasing decisions. And, as with most guides, Id say its possible that it is not entirely accurate. It lists its sources and its process, so personal research into it is up to the user. I can definitely echo the desire for the return of the search-by-category like in the previous version (5 stars once that has been added). Overall I find this to be an excellent idea and great app to help make more earth friendly choices.

Agree totally with another reviewer that, while the book is so great, this app is useless without the ability to search by category. Like, Im obviously not going to go through a list of thousands of items, several times over, to try to decide between items at the grocery store. Please fix this.

I have been using the book and app for a few years and was really excited for the long awaited update. unfortunately, i can no longer search by categories, making the app almost useless when shopping. in fact, i dont plan on updating my iphone unless categories becomes available. i really hope that this functionality is returned to the app, even if it requires an additional charge. for me, the whole purpose of the app was to be able to leave the book at home. 5 star app, once i can search by categories. thanks!!!!

This is a great idea. Just used it and I shopped differently with the info. Ill use this often.

This is the first app to bring to light companies and product in social global awareness. Surprising and great information. Looking forward to more companies and products in the future.

…it only gives you a letter grade. You, of course, need to buy the book to see what bad things bring down a companys rating. It would be nice to see at least a generalized listing of what lowered certain scores. Idea for a Feature: Let the user make a list of their local stores. Indented below them would be the company names with their letter grade. This way you wouldnt have to look everything up all the time.

Thank you SO much for making an app that goes along with your book. I shop with my iPhone anyway, so having this app with me will definitely influnce which products go into my shopping cart. The importance of what this app represents CANNOT be overstated. By myself, I cant change the world, but I CAN help to keep one child from being exploited or help stop the degredation of our environment. If everyone would shop with their eyes open, what a difference we could make. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

If you havent already, I would highly suggest reading A Better World Handbook. It was my favorite textbook in college at CU Boulder...

This is very good app, but its missing some very useful info. I have the book and each section, in the book, has a page with 5 additional pieces of information: What you need to know, Buying Tips, Corporate Hero, Corporate Villain, and Resources. I would change my rating from a good app to a great app, if they would add that info...

Wow! So glad to have found this app! Also have the book "The Better World Shopping Guide" - This is the type of economic pressure that got the dolphins out of the tuna fish cans!
