Thats all I ever wanted! An update!
It took a while. I hope its worth the wait.
I love the idea of this app and so badly want to adhere to its suggestions of where to shop (and where not to) based on the grades given the companies/brands, which seem to be based on reliable research. However, as a consumer on a budget, I need a little more convincing. If the grades were accompanied by an explanation as to why the company/brand received that grade, I would be much more likely to follow through with either supporting or boycotting that company/brand. In a town where choices are limited (especially for those whose financial resources are limited), I need to really believe in what Im supporting and therefore need more information so I can truly make an informed choice.
This is a great app to help you buy ethically. Data base keeps growing The need automotive stores and parts companies
Id like details for each company, why they got rated the way they did. Msft gets an F but they are the most charitable and treat their emps very well. Adobe only got a B- but deserves at least an A- ... Environment, charity etc. Apple gets an A but it is one if the worst, horrible treatment of workers overseas, no charity etc. kohls gets a C but deserves better. I want a refund now.
Individual grades for each category would be helpful. I care about some criteria more than others so I would probably weight my decisions differently. Beyond that explanation for each grade would also be helpful. Additionally it would be nice to suggest brands which arent listed directly through the app.
When in the store this app is on and helpful. For details you must buy the annual book. All you ask gor is there and on their website. The app is a scaled down mobile reminder.
Of all the criteria used in buying decisions, the ethical standards of the business are often least considered. How does this company treat its employees, the environment, its communities? This app helps you make ethically sound buying decisions whether youre booking a flight or getting cooking oil!
Ive been a fan of the Better World Shopping Guides for a long time and have made changes to my choices as a consumer because of you. Its great to be able to make the most ethical purchases possible, based on my budget, with these ratings. And now, Ive got the guide in my pocket! Thanks. Of course, more detailed comments on each company (as in the book), would be nice. And, somehow Pretzels and Nuts have ended up under Pet Care. Might want to fix that.
This is an incredible app that I use every time I go to the store. It is a quick and convenient way to buy healthy products and support the companies whose goals are responsible and sustainable. I would love to see updates and new features as often as possible and would also like to have access to specific information about each company as presented in the book. This is the best, most powerful consumer tool that Ive seen and I highly recommend it.
Very helpful app. Please a add a section for book stores. Thanks.
This is the best app with which you can make ethical choices when choosing where to spend your money. However, the nuts and the pretzels & mixes sections have glitches which is sad. :( thy are under pet care for some reason. But still best app purchase ever!
The basis of the app is brilliant but by just listing brands and grading them, I have no idea what these companies are doing that is either great or horrible. I understand that is says there is 20 years of research - but where is the research? Because a company doesnt necessarily rank high with unions (some of the places they get their "research") doesnt necessarily mean that its an unethical company. I guess Id want more information. Waste of $.
The reviews seem to match with what I know about the companies. Id say this is an incredibly useful and convenient guide to have available in your pocket to help with purchasing decisions. And, as with most guides, Id say its possible that it is not entirely accurate. It lists its sources and its process, so personal research onto it is up to the user. I can echo the desire for more info like in the book. Mine seems to crash if Ive previously opened it, returned to the desktop and reopen it. I just open it again and it works. This is a flaw but it opens so quick it almost doesnt matter (2 sec). Overall I find this to be an excellent idea and great app to help make more earth friendly choices. iPhone 4 iOS 6.1.3
While I love the idea of this app and its purpose, it wasnt actually worth me buying it. Considering I did pay for it, Id hoped it would have more information, such as giving companies grades on individual categories as well as overall, and providing reasons for the grades for each company instead of just having a generic explanation.
Opinions and claims without evidence, explanation or substantiation. Total waste of time. Have deleted it.
I really wish there were more high-in brands for clothes or shoes. I also for the rating for each company list specific bullet points about how the app is bad or good and show the source right under it. When click on Kraft for example, I see the rating, why it is rated that, examples how bad or good it is, and where you found the source! The app needs an update!
I was so excited for the long awaited update and am really disappointed that it no longer has the companys listed by category. I own the book, but use the app when Im out shopping. In some ways the app will be useless, when trying to figure out which brand is my best option. Very disappointing. I would be happy to pay more for the app for a version that includes categories. I for now, I dont plan on updating my phone to the newest version. (Updated my iPad already). Please bring back this functionality, i dont plan on carrying the book around, thats why I bought the app Other than that, its great and I would/will give it a 5 stars if/when categories are reintroduced. Thanks
This app is awesome. Every person that works in any way connected to justice (hint: all of us) should have this. Love the new update
